VoIP Products
VoIP products are what will make
VoIP the next telecom revolution. As long as providers
offer excellent VoIP products to both businesses and
consumers, the VoIP momentum cannot help but pick up
speed. VoIP products come in two basic varieties: software
VoIP products and hardware VoIP products. We've listed
some of the most popular VoIP products in this ever-changing
market.
VoIP Protocols and Standards
Currently, VoIP products need
to be based on two standards: H.323 and Session Initiation
Protocol (SIP). The H.323 standard has been around the
longest while SIP is the new standard in which most
hardware and software VoIP products are based.
VoIP Software Products
VoIP Softphones, gateway software,
server software and web conferencing software are the
major VoIP software products at this time. Softphones
work on a person's PC to translate voice into digital
packets, which are then sent over the Internet. Gateway
software allows may or may not be a part of softphones
or hardphones or servers. The gateway does the actual
translation from analog to digital data.
Server software products allow
voice to be both billed correctly and forwarded to the
appropriate IP addresses (recipients). In addition,
server software products can provide firewalls, intrusion
detection and content filtering. VoIP web conferencing
software allows for voice, audio, video and animation
to be used in presentations before large or small groups
and in large conference rooms or by individual PC.
VoIP Hardware Products
VoIP hardware products include
such items as IP to PBX interfacing, web conferencing,
servers, gateways, switches, networking, phones, PDA's,
adapters and WiFi components. Some of the major players
in the VoIP networking hardware arena are Cisco, Lucent
and Nortel. Some of the consumer VoIP phones that are
being offered are USB handsets, corded and cordless
hardphone and even WiFi hard phones.
No matter what VoIP products
you're in a market for, there are plenty of manufacturers
now days ready to give you quality, feature-rich software
and hardware solutions. If you're interested in providers,
